First off, let me just say that I am LOVING my book choices this summer! It has been months since I picked up a book that I didn’t really enjoy, and this one is no exception. Unforgettable by Ronda Gibb Hinrichsen is definitely a novel that will stay with me for a long time and was deeply moving.
Synopsis: Haley is a young woman who spends her days working at her family’s mortuary and all of her free-time caring for and spending time with her great-grandmother, Grisa. Although they live in the U.S., Grisa immigrated from Germany at the start of World War II with her young daughter after her husband mysteriously vanished. Assuming her husband Ulrich abandoned his family, Grisa has spent decades angry and hurt….until one day when Haley receives a shocking phone call from a German police detective. Ulrich’s body has been found and all signs point to MURDER!
Grisa begs Haley to go to Germany and find out what happened to her husband all those years ago. What she uncovers are generations of secrets, lies, and a group of suspicious people hellbent on keeping their operations a secret. The lengths these people will go to keep their secrets………well, I’m not saying anything else, other than this is SUCH A GOOD READ! Mysterious, historical, heartfelt- I just loved this book so much! Although the book is fictional, many elements of the book are true, and it really made me think about how devastating war is on so many people, and the lengths that “bad guys” will go to get what they want is terrifying.
Lucky for you, Unforgettable is already out and available for purchase!
